It only takes a few donors to make one senior safe
SGP’s business model is intended to be about as lean as it can be.
Simply put, it takes about $350 to establish a guardianship for a vulnerable senior.
That entails the necessary paperwork that is filed with the District Court and any court appearances required prior to a Judge entering an order appointing SGP as guardian. After that is in place it takes about $150 per month to maintain the guardianship. That entails monthly visits where appropriate, being available to answer questions, give permissions or obtain Court orders concerning the senior’s placement and progress and ensuring that their needs are being met. There are also reporting requirements for periodic reports back to the Court.
That means approximately $2000 per year needs to be secured for each senior to be helped.
Thanks to a grant from the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, SGP was able to apply for and receive 501(c)(3) status to allow your donations to be tax deductible. Recurring annual or monthly donations are vital to our budgeting and planning functions.
We are serious when we characterize ourselves as a “community partner” – and we understand that partnership is with individuals as well as the service providers and advocates for the elderly already in place.
